Meditation and not medication should be the first line of treatment for most lifestyle disorders. The very fact that our body has a receptor for each and every drug means it has the capacity to produce that drug. God never made these receptors for pharmacological agents or drugs. The key lies in achieving the undisturbed state of consciousness, which can be obtained by either controlling the disturbed state of mind or bypassing it by using the mantra. The subject of spiritual medicine should be included in schools, colleges and medical sciences.Confession and communication are two easy modes to control a disturbed state of mind. As darkness is absence of light, negative thoughts are absence of positive thoughts. To reduce negative thoughts, one should inculcate positive thoughts, actions and behaviors. One cannot hate a stranger. One can only hate a person whom he or she has loved. Hatred is therefore withdrawal of love, and it can only be removed by bringing the love back. By the process of meditation, it has been shown that diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, paralysis, asthma and acid-peptic disease can be kept under control without or with minimal medicines.

Uncontrolled blood pressure can lead to heart attacks, paralysis and heart failure. Most such attacks occur in the early morning hours. Pulse, blood pressure and thickening of platelets are all higher in the early morning hours. Controlling early morning blood pressure can reduce cardiovascular mortality.

According to a study published in the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology, among patients with chronic kidney disease and high blood pressure, taking at least one antihypertensive drug at bedtime significantly improves blood pressure control, with an associated decrease in risk for cardiovascular events.

The study included 661 patients with chronic kidney disease who were randomly assigned either to take all prescribed anti BP drugs on awakening or to take at least one of them at bedtime. Patients were followed for a median of 5.4 years; during that time, patients who took at least 1 BP–lowering drug at bedtime had approximately one third of the cardiac risk compared with those who took all medications on awakening. A similar significant reduction in cardiac deaths, heart attacks and paralysis was noted with bedtime dosing. Patients taking their medications at bedtime also had a significantly lower mean BP while sleeping. For each 5 mmHg decrease in mean sleep–time systolic upper BP, there was a 14% reduction in the risk for cardiovascular events during follow–up. Potential explanation for the benefit of night time treatment may be associated with the effect of night time treatment on urinary albumin excretion levels. Urinary albumin excretion is significantly reduced after bedtime, but not morning, treatment.

Our body is the largest pharmaceutical group in the world and has the capacity to heal each and every disease. The very fact that there is a receptor for every drug in the body means that the body has the capacity to produce that drug. Music is one such modality which can heal by initiating various chains of chemical reactions in the body. Chanting vowels produces interleukin 2 in the body which works like a painkiller. Chanting nasal consonants produces tranquilizers in the body. Sounds like LUM are associated with fear VUM with attachments RUM with doubt YUM with love HUM with truthfulness and AUM with non judgmental. Various chemicals can be produced in the body by chanting of various vowels and consonants. Nasal consonants are vibrant sounds and produce vibrations of the autonomic plexus causing balance between sympathetic and parasympathetic states. More the nasal consonants in music the more will be its relaxing healing power. Listening to overtone chanting in music can also heal people in the vicinity of the music. Recitation of music can also increase or decrease respiratory rate of the singer. Lyrics which reduce respiratory rate will lead to parasympathetic healing activity. The respiratory rate of a listener too can increase and decrease if he is absorbed in the song. Listening to a song word by word and by understanding its meaning can also change the biochemistry of the listener. A song can create an excitement or a feeling of depression. A song can also work like intent by speaking in the form of prayers. Group prayers can have powerful affects and convert intent into reality through the concept of spontaneous fulfilment of desire. Music is often linked with dance both classical and western which provides additional healing. The ambient noise standard for residential areas is 55 decibel dB during the day and 45 dB at night. Permissible noise in industrial area is 75 dB in daytime and 70 dB in nighttime. Permissible noise in commercial area is 65 dB in daytime and 55 dB in nighttime. Permissible sound in residential area is 55 dB in daytime and 45 dB in nighttime. Permissible sound in silence zone is 50 dB in daytime and 40 dB in nighttime. Day time shall mean from 6am to 10 pm and nighttime shall mean from 10 pm to 6am. Silence zone are areas up to 100 m around hospitals educational institutions and courts. One can complain to the authorities if the noise levels exceed from the allowable limit by more than 10dB. High noise levels lead to stress related dysregulation of the autonomic system leading to high blood pressure and heart disease.

More than 30 people of the society including children have potbelly abdominal obesity. India is witnessing an epidemic of metabolic syndrome which is characterized by abdominal obesity high triglyceride low good cholesterol high blood pressure and high sugar. Abdominal girth of more than 90 cm in men and 80 cm in women indicates that the person is vulnerable to future heart attack. Normal weight obesity is the new epidemic of the society. A person could be obese even if his her body weight was within the normal range. An extra inch of fat around the abdomen increases the chances of heart disease by 1.5 times. Normally once the height stops growing most organs will also stop growing. The weight of the heart liver of kidney cannot increase after that. Only muscles can build up to some extent. The only thing after that stage which can increase the weight of the body is deposition of fat. Therefore any weight gain after puberty is invariably due to fat. Though the overall weight can be in the acceptable normal range but any weight gain within that range will be abnormal for that person. One should not gain weight of more than 5 kg after the age of 20 years in males and 18 years in females. After the age of 50 the weight should reduce and not increase. Potbelly obesity is linked to eating refined carbohydrates and not animal fats. General obesity is linked to eating animal fats. Refined carbohydrate includes white rice white maida and white sugar. Brown sugar is better than white sugar. Refined carbohydrates are called bad carbohydrates and animal fat is called bad fat. Trans fat or vanaspati is bad for health. Trans fats increase the levels of bad cholesterol and reduce good cholesterol in the body. Reduction in weight can reduce snoring pain of arthritis blood pressure and control uncontrolled diabetes.

An elephant is obese, eats sugarcane (ganna) and yet does not develop diabetes. I am sure if he is given 10% sugar drinks everyday or made to eat 30% sugar containing sweets, he too would end up with diabetes. The natural form of sugarcane is eating ganna, the second form is sugarcane juice, third is gur (jaggery), fourth is shakkar and fifth is white sugar. The more you eat foods in their natural form, more the health benefits you will get from that food. Food is Brahmin and contains the same consciousness as you have. Food, which is more refined will loses its consciousness and is not beneficial to the health. Similarly, wheat flour with bran is better than flour without bran, which is better than suji, which is better than maida. Maida is the final product and if taken every day, it can cause heart disease, diabetes and high blood pressure.

Ingestion of a vegetarian diet may reduce systolic blood pressure by 5 mmHg. A 5 mm reduction in blood pressure may reduce the risk of heart disease by 21%. One major feature of a vegetarian diet that may affect blood pressure is the amount of dietary fiber; with an increased amount being associated with decreased systemic pressures. Multiple meta–analyses have shown benefits with dietary fiber intake on blood pressure. Vegetarians, in general, have lower blood pressure levels and a lower incidence of hypertension and other cardiovascular diseases. Experts postulate that a typical vegetarian’s diet contains more potassium, complex carbohydrates, polyunsaturated fat, fiber, calcium, magnesium, vitamin C and vitamin A, all of which may have a favorable influence on blood pressure. More significant reductions were observed in older (greater than 40 years) and hypertensive individuals. Soya is good for high blood pressure because it is naturally high in potassium and low in sodium. Potassium and sodium are electrolytes, and a high–potassium, low–sodium diet promotes a healthy blood pressure. Soya can be good for high blood pressure when you eat it as an alternative protein source to unhealthy meats. Soya–based meat substitutes, such as veggie burgers, veggie bacon and meatless cold cuts, can be higher in fiber and lower in sodium than animal-based meat products. They can lower your risk for heart disease because they are lower in saturated fat. However, soya does not contain the long–chain omega–3 fatty acids that are found in fatty fish and shellfish; these may lower your blood pressure, according to the Linus Pauling Institute. Even though soya is low in unhealthy saturated fat, some soya products are high in total fat and calories, and as a result will contribute to weight gain if you eat too much. Losing weight if you are overweight, or maintaining your current weight if you are already at a healthy weight, improves your chances of lowering your high blood pressure.

Marital disharmony and job dissatisfaction are the two main mental risk factors for the causation of heart attack. Many studies in the past have suggested that there is a strong correlation between a nagging wife and early heart attacks in men. Similarly, literature has shown that work–related stress is related to early onset of high blood pressure, diabetes, stroke and heart attacks. A study from University College, London has shown that chronically stressed workers have a 68% of higher risk of developing heart disease, especially in people under the age of 50. Whether stress–related chemical changes or stress–related behavior is linked to heart disease, is yet to be answered. Stress–related lifestyle involves eating unhealthy food, smoking, drinking and skipping exercises. Chemical changes related to chronic stress are increased levels of cortisol, epinephrine and norepinephrine. Amongst stress, negative stress is more dangerous than positive stress and amongst negative stress it is jealousy, anger and cynicism which are associated with heart attack. The answer lies in managing stress by acting on a personal situation and not reacting to it. In children the same type of stress, especially during exam days, can end up with anxiety, insomnia and suicidal attempts

The most common symptom of coronary heart disease is chest pain (angina) or discomfort, which can also occur in the shoulders, arms, neck, jaw or back. People may mistake this pain for indigestion, which can be dangerous. Sometimes, it’s impossible to tell the difference between the symptoms of heartburn, angina and heart attack.

A heart attack occurs when the blood supply to part of the heart muscle is severely reduced or stopped. This can result in death or disability, depending on how much of the heart muscle is damaged. Unfortunately, many people may not be aware they are having a heart attack.

There are some useful pointers that might help a person know whether they’re having a heart attack or not, but when in doubt, one should check it out.

Symptoms of a heart attack include the sudden onset of tightness, pressure, squeezing, burning or discomfort in the chest, throat, neck or either arm. When these symptoms are accompanied by nausea, vomiting, sweating, shortness of breath or a fainting sensation, Dr. Aggarwal says one should be especially suspicious that you might be having a heart attack.
