4. The benefits of Navratri lasts post Dusshera. On Sharad Purnima (Health benefits), Karva Chauth (Longevity benefits), and on Ahoi Asthmi (Fertility benefits).

5.  Most festivals of Sharad Ritu are linked to Moon (Sharad Purnima, Karva Chauth and Ahoi Asthmi). Moon in mythology is linked to cool mind.

6.  Kartik month is the month of increased fertility. Ahoi festival is also linked to the increased fertility.

7.  In Pooja for every child born the mother is suppose to add one picture on the Ahoi chart

8.  The mothers’ observing this fast, wake up early in the morning and keep water in a utensil made of mud (Kora Karawa). They worship Goddess Ahoi. They fast for the whole day. In the evening Goddess Ahoi is offered fruits and worshiped again.  Stars are offered pure water stored in Karawa. Ahoi is made on wall with whitish color. This picture displays, Goddess, lion and the seven sons. Water is drunk from the hands of child, ending the fast.

9. Women observing the fast should avoid getting angry on this day and bring bad thoughts to mind.

10 It is also a festival to emphasize the love and concern for animals. One should not be cruel to the animals. In Pooja one is suppose to apologize for all the cruelty done on the animals in the past.

2.    It is a popular fast in Hinduism. It is performed by the married women for the well being of their husband.

4.    The fast is linked to Navratri. The benefits of doing mind body soul detoxification during Navratri are seen on health (Sharad Purnima); longevity (Karva Chauth); fertility (Ahoi Ashtami ), wealth (Dhanteras) and inner happiness  (Diwali),

5.    The fast starts before sunrise and ends after worshipping the moon. On the day, married women wake up before sunrise and take bath and offer their usual prayers. They then consume food that can help in maintaining the fluid level of the body – milk, fruits, juice, tea or coffee.

6.    Non-vegetarian food is avoided.

7.    No food is consumed after sunrise.

8.    The practice of “feast, fast and feast” is not health friendly.

9.    Patients with diabetes and hypertension may need to reduce their dose of drugs. During fast the requirement may reduce by 40%.

10. Most patients with high blood pressure are advised to take their BP drug at night. In that case the fast will not affect the BP regimen timing.

11. One should avoid Trans fat rich foods before or after the fast.

12. One should break the fast with light food only for getting the maximum spiritual benefit.

13. Moon is worshipped on both Sharad Purnima and Karva Chauth.

14. In Sharad Ritu with predominant metabolism (Pitta) the importance of moon with cooling properties cannot be over emphasized.

15. Moon in mythology indicated positive thinking with cool mind.

16. Most pregnant ladies are asked to avoid fasting during pregnancy and if they do they are allowed to take fruits and liquids.

17. The difference between Karva Chauth fast and ekadashi fast is (in both water is not allowed) is that in Karva Chauth one is allowed to consume enough liquids early in the morning. Ekadashi Vrata aims at producing dehydration in the body so as to avert the mental side effects of water retention during full moon. In Karva Chauth one is not required to dehydrate the body.
