Padma Shri and Dr B C Roy National Awardee Dr Krishan Kumar Aggarwal (Dr KK) resident of S -344, Greater Kailash – I, New Delhi, is serving the humanity and social cause as Senior Consultant Physician and Dean Board of Medical Education Moolchand Medcity.

 

Recipient of Padma Shri, Vishwa Hindi Samman, National Science Communication Award and Dr B C Roy National Award, Gold Medallist (Nagpur University), Limca Book of Record Holder (CPR10)

 

He is currently Honorary Secretary General of Indian Medical Association. He was also Sr Vice president IMA and Founder Trustee and President Heart Care Foundation of India; Editor in Chief IJCP Group of Publications. He has served as Hony. National Finance Secretary IMA, Director IMA AKN Sinha Institute and Chairman IMAAMS in the past.

He is a member Delhi Medical Council (2004- till date) and member ethics committee MCI. He was President Delhi Medical Association in 2005-06.

 

During MBBS he topped Nagpur University in 1 st and 2 nd years and amongst male candidates in the final MBBS. He also topped Nagpur University in the aggregate of all the MBBS marks taken together and received two University gold medals. During his MBBS carrier he received Distinctions in Physiology, Ophthalmology, Forensic Medicine and a medal in every subject (four Gold Medals, nine Silver Medals, and five Bronze Medals). At MGIMS Sevagram he was declared as the Best Graduate of the College in 1979.

He is Sr. Physician, Cardiologist and Mind Body Consultant and a world class Clinical Echocardiographer, Writer, Author, Anchor, Orator, Columnist, Health Communicator, Social Worker, Educator, Teacher, Trainer, Conceptualizer, Visualizer, Creator, Organizer, Preacher, Administrator, Advisor, Social Activist, Researcher and Meditation teacher par excellence.

 

Regarding his early education he did his schooling from ASVJ Hr. Sec. School, Daryaganj, Delhi with Distinctions in Physics & Biology. He did 1 st Year Zoology (Hons) from Desh Bandhu College (DU) with Distinction in Physics. During his MBBS he did special trainings in Clinical Rheumatology and Cytogenetics at AIIMS under Dr A N Malaviya (1982) and Leprosy Immunology at JALMA Agra (1982). He did his research fellowship in Echocardiography at University of Alabama at Birmingham USA (1987), training in Pediatric Echocardiography at Mount Saini Hospital New York (1987), training in Vascular Doppler Ultrasound at Oakwood Medical Center, Detroit (1987). He also got training in spiritual medicine and became a certified meditation teacher under Dr Deepak Chopra from San Diego in 1988.

After his MD Medicine he joined Moolchand Hospital in 1983 and became a consultant after five months of residency by getting out of turn promotion.

 

As a researcher he has contributed to six chapters in International Textbook on Echocardiography (by Navin C Nanda), 14 International Publications (Am J of Cardiology, Circulation, Journal of Medicine and Echocardiography, a journal of clinical ultrasound), 115 publications in Indexed National Journals (namely JAPI, Indian Heart Journal, Indian Journal of Heart Research) and over 350 publications in review Indian Journals.

 

In the scientific field he has many first evers to his credit. He started the clot dissolving streptokinase therapy along with Dr K L Chopra for the first time in the country in 1984 and started the techniques of Colour Doppler Echocardiography in North India in year 1988 and live 3D echocardiography in North India in 2005.

 

In the public health field also he has given to the nation many first ever innovative public health modules in the field of health awareness. He conceptualized and organized the first ever (1993) and then regularly “Perfect Health Mela” and “Run for your Heart” in 1991. On both these occasions, Govt. of India released National Postal Commemorative Stamps (INR 6.50 & 1 respectively).

The Perfect Health Mela organised at Talkatora Gardens with Delhi Administration in 1993 was declared as the best event in Asia by BBC news. Ever since, the Mela is being organised annually by him. Ministry of Family Welfare and later the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Govt. of India later adopted this module under the National Health Policy.

 

He is a multifaceted healer & a soul preacher. He promotes & integrates all systems of medicine.  He established the department of Holistic Medicine at Apollo hospital in 2000; writes regularly in Navbharat Times and Dainik Jagran (Kalp Vriksha and Ananad Yoga Edit columns in NBT); wrote regularly for the HT UK edition; produced and Co-Directed 52 episodes  on “Body Mind and Soul” on DD News (2000); coordinated 102 episodes of live phone-in TV programme “Healthy India” for DD Bharti with specialists on all pathies (2003, still on repeat telecast); 32 programs for Loksabha TV; conducts regular workshops on meditation and advocates need for introducing the subject of Spiritual Medicine in MBBS curriculum.

 

He is a creative writer and pioneer in medical journalism. He is a prolific writer on community health subjects. He regularly sensitizes public on Do’s & Don’ts on prevention. He has contributed over 400 articles in newspapers and magazines and appearances in Radio & TV talks on health. He is one of the most quoted doctors in the field of health and has been quoted over 12,000 times in the national media.  He is also the Editor-in-Chief of the IJCP Group of Publications – with over 30 journals, newspapers and health care educational products catering to doctors.

 

As an advisor he has served on many government assignments. He was the convener of health advisory committee DD Bharti (2002), a governing council member of College of Applied Sciences Univ. of Delhi (2000), member Delhi Legal Service Authority (1998),  member of committee for experts for control of cardiovascular diseases Ministry of Health GOI;  Delhi coordinator for the Year of Scientific Awareness by Department of Science and Technology GOI (2004); Member of Manviya Sanrakshan Abhiyan Samiti Ministry of HRD (2004) and on the committee for medical informatics Ministry of Health and Family welfare Govt. of India. He has developed training modules for Police, HIV training for DSACS and for blood motivators for DST GOI.

 

He is an awareness stirrer. He has designed over 1000 one liner health sutras, which serves as thumb for the purpose of health understanding (example food of plant in origin contains no cholesterol).  He has been the first one to organize conferences for the doctors and release practical guidelines for the general public during the epidemics of dengue, plague, meningococcal meningitis, leptospirosis, and epidemic dropsy.

He is a keen educator, sensitizer and trainer. He holds the distinction of organizing eleven World Conferences on Cardiology, Medical CME Programs and Health Events in the country. He has been training nursing students for the last 15 years (education, interactive competitions etc). He was responsible for the training on first aid and CPR for all PCR vans in Delhi during Raja Vijay Karan’s tenure as police commissioner; training of DTC drivers on First Aid under Dept. of Transport and training of students and school principals on subjects like HIV-AIDS, road safety under Delhi Government.

 

He is a social campaigner and has conceptualized popular community based interactive programs like: Health Durbar;  Perfect Health Parade; Health Tambola; Kaun Banega Healthy Crorepati; Tongathon March, Health Break (break ke baad); Walks on Health subjects; Tempothon; Mr. Tobacco- an anti-Tobacco campaign; Delhi Minister’s Pledge to boycott tobacco promoting functions; Take care of your sweet heart Glow red campaign;  100 meters race for the patients with knee pain or replaced  knee;  The green concert on World Environment Day; Tobacco effigies burning with all rituals at cremation ground;  Health awareness using the kites with health messages;  Health awareness through competitions (school, college, dance schools, RWA and inter organizations), and has designed low cost educational modules like Health Playing Cards; Miniature Health Books; Health Games like Snake and ladder, Ludo, Dart, besides Fun and  Recreation for the common masses.

 

He is a visionary with a difference. He has conceptualized disease specific camps on PSA, TSH, obesity and osteoporosis camps; designed advertisements for various Delhi Govt. campaigns; created new logo for Allopathy (red wheel with Rx sign) that was adopted by Delhi Medical Association and advocates the inclusion of financial health in the definition of heath.

He has a deep-rooted concern for the weaker sections and created the concept of life saving drug bank, pacemaker bank and free health check up camps. He organised free pacemaker camps (1990 – 96) with Project Pacer International, a US based NGO, where 25 to 30 free pace makers were free implanted annually. Now he runs a heart care foundation helpline (09958771177) and heart care foundation drug bank.

 

He conceptualized the idea of involving politicians, bureaucrats and celebrities in dispersing health messages to the community utilizing the principle ‘Hit the Iron When It is Hot’ and Involving People Who Count’.  He got health Messages released from Hon’ble President of Republic of India Smt. Pratibha Devi Singh Patil, former Hon’ble Presidents of Republic of India Late Gyani Zail Singh, Late Shri Shankar Dayal Sharma, former Hon’ble Vice Presidents of Republic of India Late Sh. He organized the first ever film stars’ Chat Show on Health in December 1993; utilized film premiers to create health awareness with films like ‘Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke’, ‘Karam Yoddha’.

He used the film ‘Main Khiladi Tu Anadi’ created awareness on HIV/AIDS. The slogan of “I am Anadi. If I Use Condom I’ll Become Khiladi” by Akshay Kumar became the talk of the town.
